Heathen Valley

Linney’s first novel, Heathen Valley (1962), was inspired by some folk tales he had heard while in Boone, North Carolina and by Susan Fenimore Cooper’s book, Missionary Life at Valle Crucis.  Loosely based on actual events, Heathen Valley is a novel that, while set in the Southern Appalachian region, is an examination of organized religion and its impacts.  Shoemaker & Hoard reissued Heathen Valley as a paperback in 2004.
