This image shows Professor D. P. Olander sitting on a chair adjusting settings on a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) machine, used to study chemical structures, in the Department of Chemistry at Appalachian State University (1967-current) during the mid-1970s. The Department of Chemistry exists within the College of Arts and Sciences, and aims to provide training for future chemists, basic understanding of the principles of chemistry, and chemistry teachers. The Department has been accredited by the American Chemical Society.
