This image shows two recipients of the A. R. Smith Chemistry Awards sitting at a table eating in September 1977 at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The Department of Chemistry exists within the College of Arts and Sciences, and aims to provide training for future chemists, basic understanding of the principles of chemistry, and chemistry teachers. The Department has been accredited by the American Chemical Society. The A. R. Smith Scholarships are awarded to chemistry majors at Appalachian State.
