President Emeritus William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969) can be seen standing behind a podium giving a speech to the audience. Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) is sitting in the background on the left. The Broyhill Inn and Conference Center served as an inn and the home of the Center for Continuing Education. Seated from right to left are Sen. James Broyhill, Ms. Patricia Holshouser (wife of Gov. James Holshouser) and Chancellor Wey.
