This image shows Dr. William C Strickland, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, standing outside a brick building with his arm around a graduating student after the 1986 commencement ceremonies at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Other students and attendees can be seen in the background. Commencements were held in the Varsity Gymnasium since its completion in 1968.
