Playcrafters, Minstrel Show, 1956, photo 1

Description

This image shows three members of the Playcrafters, the dramatic organization for Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) since 1934, posing while holding up the skirts of their costumes. In February 1956, the Playcrafters performed their annual minstrel show with the theme "River Boat Rhythm," which included a series of small music, dance, and theatrical performances, and cost thirty-five cents per student. It was held in the auditorium of the second Administration Building, built 1924. The Playcrafters performed multiple one-act and three-act plays during the school year, as well as performing in regional and state contests.
