This image shows four attendees of the commencement ceremonies can be seen standing outside in academic dress at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967), circa 1965. Appalachian State President William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969) can be seen standing with a pipe second from the right. The second Administration Building, built 1924, and Smith-Wright Hall, built 1940, can be seen in the background. Commencement was held in the Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, until 1968.
