Description

This image shows processional during the spring commencement in Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on May 25, 1958. Commencement speakers walk down the aisle toward the stage, including Professor Herman Eggers, Dean Daniel Whitener, and President William Howard Plemmons. Audience members can be seen standing in the background, and the band is visible in the foreground. Commencement included a speech by Charles F. Carroll, state superintendent of Public Instruction, and an invocation by Reverend E. H. Lowman, pastor of the Boone Methodist Church, performances by the Choir and Band, and a degree ceremony.
