Commencement, 1958, processional, photo 2

This image shows the spring commencement in Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on May 25, 1958. Two student marshals walk down the aisle followed by undergraduates in caps and gowns. Other students can be seen standing in front of chairs, and the band is visible in the foreground. Commencement included a speech by Charles F. Carroll, state superintendent of Public Instruction, and an invocation by Reverend E. H. Lowman, pastor of the Boone Methodist Church, performances by the Choir and Band, and a degree ceremony.
