This image shows the degree ceremony in the spring commencement ceremony on May 17, 1957, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). A speaker stands behind a podium, reading names, while a student walks towards President William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969), after receiving her diploma in an envelope. Commencement was held at Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, until 1968.
