This image shows two attendees of the commencement ceremony at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1978. Commencement was held in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. Dwight Quinn stands in the middle. Quinn was a legislator in the North Carolina Legislature and former member of the Appalachian State Board of Trustees. He played a prominent role in Appalachian State achieving university status, and received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Appalachian State during the commencement ceremony. On the left is Dr. Hugh Daniel, member of the Board of Trustees. On the right is Mr. F. P. Bodenheimer, member of the Board of Trustees.
