This image shows Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) handing a degree and shaking hands with a student wearing a cap and gown during the degree ceremony during commencement at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in August 1977. Commencement was held at the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. Seated on the far right is Dr. Robert Maxon, Dean of the College of Learning and Human Development. Seated second on the right is Dr. Nicholas Erneston.
