This image shows one of the commencement speakers speaking at the commencement ceremony at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1977. Commencement was held at the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. Another commencement speaker is visible in the background, and the wall includes a painting of a bull's head over an outline of West Virginia and a painting of Yosef, Appalachian State's mascot. At the podium is Dr. Willian C. Strickland, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Seated in the background is Chancellor John E. Thomas.
