This image shows one of the commencement speakers speaking at the commencement ceremony at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1977. Commencement was held at the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. Another commencement speaker is visible in the background, and the wall reads, "Furman," with a painting of their mascot, a knight on a horse, "VMI," with a painting of their kangaroo mascot, and a painting of a bulldog, the mascot of the Citadel.
