This image shows two attendees of the commencement ceremony at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1978. Commencement was held in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. Standing to the left is Dwight Quinn, a member of the North Carolina Legislature and a former member of the Appalachian State Board of Trustees. Quinn played a prominent role in Appalachian State achieving university status, and received an honorary doctor of laws degree during the commencement ceremony. Standing on the right is Mr. Robert Allen, Office of Communication and Public Affairs.
