Description

This image shows three men helping Dwight Quinn with his academic dress before being awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree during the May 1978 commencement ceremonies at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Commencement was held at the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. Standing on the left is Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey, (1969-1979). Quinn was a legislator and member of the Appalachian State Board of Trustees in the 1960s and 1970s. He helped the School obtain university status in 1967. From the left are Chancellor Herbert W. Wey, Mr. Robert Snead (Vice Chancellor for Development and Public Affairs), Mr. Robert Allen (Office of Communications and Public Affairs, Mr. Dwight Quinn and Dr. William C. Strickland.
