This image shows Douglas H. Covington, the prinicple speaker at Appalachian State speaking at commencement ceremonies at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in August 1981. Douglas Covington was chancellor of Winston-Salem University. Commencement was held at the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. This image appears in the August 10, 1981 edition of the Watauga Democrat (p. 3A).
