This image shows a commencement speaker, North Carolina Governor James Holshouser (1973-1977), standing on a stage during the 1974 commencement ceremony in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Other commencement speakers are visible in the background. As a former governor, Holshouser is a member emeriti of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.
