This image shows Appalachian State student Jonathan Pierce, a political science major, speaking at the Summer 1975 commencement ceremony in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Cratis Williams, dean of the Graduate School, can be seen seated in the background on the right. Back wall reads, "VMI," with a painting of a kangaroo mascot, and "Citad..." with a partial painting of a bulldog mascot.
