This image shows former Appalachian State President William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969) speaking at the Bicentennial celebration in front of the B. B. Dougherty Administration Building, built 1968, in 1976 at Appalachian State University (1969-current). The United States Bicentennial was celebrated on Sunday, July 4, 1976, the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
