This image shows Appalachian State history professor and chairman of the American Revolution Bicentennial Committee J. Max Dixon speaking at the Bicentennial celebration in front of the B. B. Dougherty Administration Building, built 1968, in 1976 at Appalachian State University (1969-current). Seated in the background is Dr. Braxton Harris, Vice President for Student Affairs. The United States Bicentennial was celebrated on Sunday, July 4, 1976, the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
