Description
This image shows an employee working with the computer system at the Computer Center at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The Center began in 1968 and was primarily used as a laboratory for the computer science courses, and for aiding University administrative offices. By 1974, Appalachian State was operating both an IBM 1130, introduced 1965, and a UNIVAC 9400, introduced 1969. By 1976, the Center was open for 24 hours a day for students and faculty use, were operating UNIVAC Series 70/46 and 90/60 computers, and offering online management information systems, interactive time sharing systems, and programming systems for research services.
