Title

Computer Center, circa 1968

Description

This image shows a student working at a RCA microcomputer at the Computer Center at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1960s or early 1970s. RCA was one of the eight major computer companies until it abandoned computer development in 1971. Its Spectra-70 system was purchased by Sperry UNIVAC Corporation, ensuring compatibility with other UNIVAC systems used by Appalachian State. By 1981, the University had an Academic Users Room set up in Whitener Hall, offering 16 terminals, two slow speed printers, and six keypunches.
