Description

This image shows a music recital by the College Band at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). The band is seated on the right, and the audience is seated in chairs and on bleachers on the left and in the back. The man standing with the baton and directing the College Band is Dr. William G. Spencer, Professor of Music. The Band was one of four musical organizations at Appalachian State, including the Appalachian Double Octet, College Choir, and College Orchestra. All performed recitals throughout the year, and music majors were required to participate in at least one for twelve quarters to obtain a degree in music education.
