Freshman Week started in 1955 on September 6, including orientation events such as testing, welcoming ceremonies, instructions, campus fellowship, and religious activities, as well as nightly festivities including a pep rally, an outdoors square dance, a production of "Horn of the West," singing, and games. Campus organizations held open houses to acquaint new students with their activities and purposes, as well as organizing parties and social events aimed at freshmen.
