Description

This image shows Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) coach Francis Hoover standing in the Men's Gymnasium, built 1934. Hoover graduated from ASTC in 1939, and began teaching in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 1945. He served as end coach for ten years, baseball coach for two years, tennis for one year, basketball for twelve years, and golf for twenty-two years. He was inducted into the Appalachian Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977, the same year he retired. He died in 2002.
