NC Junior College Forensic Tournament, 1954, photo 1

Description

This image shows some of the attendees of the first annual North Carolina Junior College Forensic Tournament on April 30 1954. Junior college debating had ceased during World War II, and in 1954, Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and the North Carolina Gamma Chapter of Pi Kappa Delta sponsored its revival. Under the direction of Leo K. Pritchett, dean of men and sponsor of the Appalachian Forensic Club, the event included two junior colleges, Mars Hill and Wingate, with Mars Hill winning the trophy. Books on desk in front row read, "Supplement on Free Trade," and "A Policy of Free Trade."
