Description

This image shows the 1953 Mountaineers football players playing an unidentified team on the Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) football field, known as College Field, located south of the Administration Building, built 1924, approximately where Rankin Science Hall was later built in 1963. The eastern corner of Smith-Wright Hall, built 1940, the side of D. D. Dougherty Library, built 1935, the south side of the Administration Building, and the southwestern corner of the Women's Gymnasium, built 1924, can be seen in the background. A crowd of onlookers can be seen sitting on benches and on the hill at the north side of the field.
