Ellen Caroline Bartlett Dougherty

Ellen Caroline Bartlett Dougherty was the mother of Dauphin Disco and Blanford Barnard Dougherty, co-founders and co-principals of Watauga Academy (1899-1903). Blanford Barnard also served as superintendent of Watauga County Schools from 1899-1915, and president of Appalachian from 1903-1955, Dauphin Disco served as the business manager and treasurer, as well as teacher of science, for Appalachian from 1903-1929.
