Description

This image shows Annie Lewis Dougherty Rufty, daughter of Watauga Academy co-founder and co-principal Dauphin Disco Dougherty. She graduated Appalachian Training School in 1921, and Bachelor of Science degree from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. She also attended Columbia University in New York City and Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. She later taught home economics at in various high schools in Watauga County and elsewhere in North Carolina. She married Roy Albert Rufty, and died in 2001.
