Description

This image shows Daniel Jay Whitener sitting in D. D. Dougherty Library holding his history book, titled "North Carolina History," at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Whitener taught history and social studies at Appalachian State since 1932, and served as dean of the College from 1955 to 1964. Whitener published "North Carolina History" in 1958.
