Description

This image shows John W. Welborn, manager of Food Services, standing with a staff member in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in 1961-62. Welborn can be seen holding a heart, reading "Appalachian Heartline, New Stadium, '61-'62." The Appalachian Heartline Fund was the fundraising program to raise money for the construction of Conrad Stadium, built 1962. Welborn was manager of the cafeteria and Food Services from 1939 until 1973. Welborn Cafeteria was the main dining hall for Appalachian State since 1925, and served food primarily grown from the University's two farms until the early 1960s.
