Description

This image shows John W. Welborn, manager of Food Services at Appalachian State University (1967-current), sitting at a table holding a plaque in March 1973. Welborn received the annual award from the National Association of College and University Food Services, which represented 800 college food services in 50 states. Welborn was manager of the cafeteria and Food Services from 1939 until 1973. Vivian Welborn taught in the Home Economics Department from 1944 until 1974, and served as a dietician from 1948 to 1963. Welborn Cafeteria was the main dining hall for Appalachian State since 1925, and served food primarily grown from the University's two farms until the early 1960s.
