This image shows Robert W. Watkins, professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1950s. Watkins began teaching at Appalachian State in 1932. He served as department chairman and athletic director from 1940 to 1944, head football coach from 1940 to 1942, and wrestling coach until 1958. He retired in the mid-1970s.
