Description

This image shows two students standing by a pool during a swim class in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1950s. One student can be seen balancing on one leg. Swim classes were held in the Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955. Appalachian State offered courses for physical education majors in beginners and advanced swimming, but also offered recreational classes for freshmen and sophomore non-majors.
