This image shows Robert W. Watkins, professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, sitting in his office holding a pipe at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1960s. Watkins began teaching at Appalachian State in 1932. He served as department chairman and athletic director from 1940 to 1944, head football coach from 1940 to 1942, and wrestling coach until 1958. He retired in the mid-1970s.
