Description

This image shows Professors Frank Randall and Ray Derrick of the Department of Biology sitting in an office at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1960s. Randall taught at Appalachian State from 1957 to 1989, and Professor Derrick from 1946 to 1976. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists, and included courses on animal observation, zoology, and graduate classes in animal ecology. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus.
