Description

This image shows D. Dwight Crater, a member of the Board of Trustees at Appalachian State University (1967-current), shaking hands with a man during a meeting in the 1970s. Crater served on the Board of Trustees from 1970 to 1977, and was chairman during 1973-74. The Board of Trustees have been a governing body of the College since it became a state-sponsored institution in 1903. The Board of Trustees was formed of members representing regional areas of Western North Carolina and managed Appalachian policies, finances, and development until 1971, when it became part of the University of North Carolina system. It now oversees Appalachian under the University System's Board of Governors.
