Description
This image shows some students and faculty at Appalachian State University (1967-current) protesting the Apartheid and Appalachian State's investments in South Africa in September 1986. The protest took place outside the B. B. Dougherty Administration Building, built 1968. An audience can be seen sitting around a stone wall, while a man speaks behind a microphone. The man speaking is Dr. Leslie "Bud" Gerber who was a General College faculty member. The sign on the wall reads, "Dollars for Divestment *Fights Apartheid *Scholarships at ASU for Black S. Africans." The event followed an NAACP Apartheid protest in Washington, D.C., on September 14, 1986.
