This image shows former President William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969) standing under an umbrella during a tribute to him at the Homecoming game at Conrad Stadium, built 1962, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in October 1969. A man standing on the right is seen talking into a microphone, with Mrs. Plemmons standing behind him. Homecoming was an annual event that included dramatic performances, a parade, a dance, a football game, reunion activities, and the crowning of the Homecoming queen. Holding the umbrella is Mr. Ned Trivette, Vice President for Business Affairs. Holding the microphone is M. James Whittington. Mostly obscured and standing behind Mr. Whittington is Ms. Bebe Plemmons, wife of President Plemmons.
