This image shows the varsity cheerleaders riding in a convertible on the football field during halftime at the Homecoming game at Conrad Stadium, built 1962, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on October 23, 1965. One of the cheerleaders can be seen waving the Confederate flag. Homecoming was an annual event that included dramatic performances, a parade, a dance, a football game, reunion activities, and the crowning of the Homecoming queen.
