This image shows Annie Dougherty Rufty sitting in a lounge with a man on November 11, 1975. The Dougherty family was donating a chest to the Department of Home Economics in the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The Department of Home Economics is now the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and provides graduate and undergraduate programs in child development, nutrition, apparel and textiles, and family and consumer sciences. It is housed in Lillie Shull Dougherty Hall, built 1962.
