Description

This image shows the Appalachian State University (1967-current) Board of Trustees, standing behind a conference table, in 1973. The Board of Trustees have been a governing body of the College since it became a state-sponsored institution in 1903. The Board of Trustees was formed of members representing regional areas of Western North Carolina and managed Appalachian policies, finances, and development until 1971, when it became part of the University of North Carolina system. It now oversees Appalachian under the University System's Board of Governors. Standing on the far left of the second row is Mr. Ralph Winkler. Third from the far left on the second row is Mr. William Rankins. Third from the far left on the back row is Chancellor Herbert W. Wey. On the far right on the back row is Mr. F.P. Bodenheimer.
