This image shows a professor in the Department of Military Science at Appalachian State University (1967-current) standing behind a podium, addressing an audience during Student Talent Week in the 1970s. Two other speakers are visible in the background, and two banners on the wall read, "wit's end" and "Student Talent Week." The Department began in the fall of 1969 and houses the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). It is located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts and offers two-year programs in leadership and military training with no obligation of future military service, and an additional two-year program that results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard.
