Description
This image shows the firing range of a U. S. Army installation used for the advanced ROTC summer camp by the Department of Military Science at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Students are standing in the background on the right, while the instructor stands on the left, and a student stands on the right holding a rifle, preparing to shoot. It is located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts and offers two-year programs in leadership and military training with no obligation of future military service, and an additional two-year program that results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard.
