Military Science, anthem, photo 1

This image shows cadet in the Department of Military Science singing the national anthem at Conrad Stadium, built 1962, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1970s. Two boys can be seen standing in the background. The Department began in the fall of 1969 and houses the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). It is located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts and offers two-year programs in leadership and military training with no obligation of future military service, and an additional two-year program that results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard.
