Letter, Hamilton Holt to John Andrew Rice, 1933

The president of Rollins College, Hamilton Holt, headed an investigation of misconduct into the behavior of then-Professor John Andrew Rice. Holt ultimately relieved Rice of his position in this letter, which left Rice free to pursue a new venture in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Letter, Bob Wunsch to John Rice, 1933

Bob Wunsch, former drama coach at Rollins College and a native North Carolinian, was influential in finding a location for the new experimental college. In this letter to Rice, Wunsch laments the difficulty of attracting students in the school’s early years. During its first semester, 20 students studied at Black Mountain College.
