Title

Valle Crucis Excavation, 1971, photo 6

Description

This image shows a student removing artifacts from a box in a room in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Laying on a glass display case is the skeleton of a woman uncovered by Professor Frank Randall during an excavation in Valle Crucis, NC, in 1971. The dig, led by biologist Frank Randall, removed the remains of a female from between 1300 and 1500. The site was revisited by Appalachian State archeology students and faculty in 1975 and 2003, uncovering artifacts between 500 and 7,000 years old.
