Description

This image shows Professor Frank Randall holding the skull of a woman uncovered in Valle Crucis in June 1971, in a classroom in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Students can be seen standing around him. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists, and included courses on ecology, zoology, and botany. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus.
