Description
This image shows two students dissecting a sea lion in a biology laboratory in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in March 1972. The sea lion was donated to the University by the U.S. Department of Interior. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists, and included courses on ecology, zoology, and botany. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus. This image appears in the March 14, 1972 edition of "The Appalachian" (p. 10).
